The other day when I commented to a few friends, as I did here, that it seems like the last few years we’ve had one really bad month each winter season, one person said, "Yeah, hello, global warming." What? I hadn’t said we’ve been having one warmer than normal month, but one worse than normal month. Don’t know what she’d been listening to.
Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune confirmed what we here in Chicagoland already knew…this February has been nasty! Here’s what they report:
- 27 degrees (F) is the normal average for February
- 10 degrees (F) is our average through last Wednesday
- 8.3 inches of snow normally for the entire month
- 13.7 inches from Feb. 1 to Feb. 17, 2007
It’s been nasty…that’s all there is to it. (Just to offset our nasty rains all last year and heat last summer.)
But that tide is turning! Today the temp skyrocketed up into the low 40s and it is forecast to be in the 30s and 40s all week. It may not be spring, it may not even be warm…but baby it feels it!
