I haven’t seen most of the Oscar nominated movies for this year (too much violence on their part and too little time on my part), so the only award I was truly interested in was Best Actress in a Leading Role.
There were a lot of surprises, i.e., the predicted, the expected, did NOT win at the Oscars tonight, so I think the evening ended up more interesting than most people expected.
This also meant extra tension when Best Actress in a Leading Role came up. Meryl Streep was fabulous in The Devil Wears Prada (and in a gag bit during the Oscars). I hear that the other women were great in their roles (Kate Winslet, Judi Dench, and Penelope Cruz); I don’t know, I haven’t seen them. BUT…Helen Mirren became The Queen and deserved the award. AND SHE WON. Congrats to Ms. Mirren!
Here’s a pre-Oscar interview with Dame Helen Mirren, including clips of her playing Elizabeth II. Enjoy.
