I finally got my garage door fixed on Wednesday…right before a full day of strong winds and rains on Thursday and snow on Friday. I decided to get a white garage door even though the house is off-white, so I’m having to adjust to the door not matching the house perfectly. The trim needs to be re-painted this summer and I’m hoping if I go with a darker trim there will be more of a break between the white garage door and the off-white house. (The next closest garage door color was darker than the house.)
The old garage door used to have windows in it. I didn’t like that because not only could neighbors look in to see if my car was there (indicating whether I was home or not), which was ok, but I didn’t like that every unknown Tom, Dick, or Harry could look in also. But now that the windows are gone…it’s much darker in the garage. I used to walk into the garage to put garbage or recycling in their proper place without turning on a light. No more…the light has to be turned on for even that short, simple task. Not a big deal. I didn’t realize how much the windows helped the garage door opener. Now as I drive toward the house I have to get about 40 to 50 feet closer to the house before the remote will open the garage door. Again, not a big deal, just an adjustment.
The main thing is–and this is good–the new door is installed and it is keeping the elements out while letting me in and out of the garage whenever and with whatever I want! That’s a big help.
