I continued to enjoy the latest adaptation of Emma; thank goodness for low expectations! I’d like to watch the un-cut version of the show before really passing judgment, but this adaptation was better than what we were subjected to two years ago.
It’s not perfect, but they did add some touching scenes between Emma and her [...]

Tonight I finally got around to watching part one of the new adaptation of the Emma that is airing on PBS. After the disastrous Austen adaptations we were subjected to in early 2008, my expectations for this adaptation were very low. But one of the advantages of low expectations, is that it’s easier to enjoy [...]

As I mentioned before, the BBC has filmed another adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. The new film will be four hours long, at least in the UK, who knows how much will be fall off as it crosses the pond, and begins airing this weekend in the UK. Here’s a BBC video about the production. [...]

Are you ready? Can we take one more? Have you prepared yourself? Can you stomach watching another?
Yes, dear friends, another Jane Austen adaptation is on the way to a TV screen near you. The hallowed BBC is releasing a new adaptation of Austen’s beloved Emma. I believe it will be shown in the U.K. in [...]

I [...]

Coming to movie theaters later this year is Becoming Jane, which looks completely fictionalized despite their claims, and The Jane Austen Book Club. But more on those another time, no need to depress ourselves now.
Starting this weekend in the U.K., [...]

My friend chats_noirs had a difficult day Friday culminating in badly sprained ankle. As their condo is not on the ground floor, this left her rather "shut in" for the holiday weekend. With my usual brilliance, a quote from her husband–not a crass attempt at fluffing my own feathers, I suggested a weekend Jane Austen [...]

Some DVDs I ordered recently arrived today. Among them, Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow. I haven’t watched this movie in a long, long time and suspect I’ve forgotten enough to enjoy it anew.
Two adaptations of Emma were released very close together in 1996. This movie version with Paltrow and the other Emma adaptation, a TV-based mini-series. [...]
