Marvel Comics Sense & Sensibility

Copyright Marvel Comics/Sense & Sensibility

Last year Marvel Comics released Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice in comic book format. This year, they’ve moved on to Austen’s Sense & Sensibility.

They’re using the same writer for the adaptation, but a different artist. I’m so behind in blogging, issues 1 and 2 have already been released and issue [...]

Emma, 2009/10 (Part 2)

I continued to enjoy the latest adaptation of Emma; thank goodness for low expectations! I’d like to watch the un-cut version of the show before really passing judgment, but this adaptation was better than what we were subjected to two years ago.

It’s not perfect, but they did add some touching scenes between Emma and her [...]

Emma (2009/10)

As I mentioned before, the BBC  has filmed another adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. The new film will be four hours long, at least in the UK, who knows how much will be fall off as it crosses the pond, and begins airing this weekend in the UK. Here’s a BBC video about the production. [...]

I Dare Say We Will Muddle Through

Are you ready? Can we take one more? Have you prepared yourself? Can you stomach watching another?

Yes, dear friends, another Jane Austen adaptation is on the way to a TV screen near you. The hallowed BBC is releasing a new adaptation of Austen’s beloved Emma. I believe it will be shown in the U.K. in [...]

Focus on Marvel Comic’s Pride and Prejudice

A while back Missyisms shared that Marvel comics was going to release a five-part edition of the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice in comic book form. The first two comic books have been released and our humble editor has taken a look.

In summary, they aren’t as bad as they could be, but they definitely [...]

A Little Remix Terror

Did you know that Mr. Darcy, gentleman that he was, was really a menace. This YouTube video proves it. Well, it proves the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice does have an interesting sub-text when remixed a bit. The narration on this video is a little forced, but it is interesting how many images from [...]

Sense and Sensibility (2007/08)

PBS aired part 1 of the last adaptation in their Complete Jane Austen with the BBC’s new Sense and Sensibility. And, wow, finally one of these new adaptations that is not only decent, but pretty good! It’s not perfect, but none of the adaptations, even Pride and Prejudice (1995) are perfect. But this one might [...]

Persuasion — 2007/8

The first episode of PBS’s "The Complete Jane Austen" has just aired. They started with the novel Persuasion, which is one of my favorite Austen books.

Hmm, what to say about the adaptation. Overall it was a fairly decent production, but…and there are some huge BUTS:

The ending was very odd and to be honest…a disaster! What’s [...]

Masterpiece’s In-”Complete Jane Austen”

As I mentioned here, this coming Sunday night PBS will begin airing adaptations of all six Jane Austen novels…ode that there were more. PBS is calling this the "Complete Jane Austen."

But is it really complete? PBS has acknowledged that they are airing shortened versions of each adaptation. This is not a surprise, it seems [...]

Jane Austen on PBS

As I posted several months ago, starting on January 13th, PBS will be showing an adaptation of all six Jane Austen novels and at least one finalized documentary/life in review type thingy.

This should be exciting news, but I just can’t get interested. Let’s look at what PBS will be airing:

Three new ITV productions:

Mansfield Park
Northanger Abbey
Persuasion

One [...]
