E-books

Today in the Chicago Tribune one of their columnist wrote about reading his first e-book on his Blackberry. If I remember correctly the columnist, Steve Johnson, covers television and the Internet, so I think we’re safe to call him a techie. And what did this techie choose as his first e-book? A recent bestseller, such [...]

Jane MacBook Pro Austen

Saturday, when I was screen testing at the Apple store, I discovered a Jane Austen reader…they’re everywhere…just as they should be.

There I was, popping DVDs into the laptops at the Apple store, when Saleswoman Terri came over. "Oh, you brought your own DVDs. Women shoppers always come prepared!"

When I popped Pride [...]

Jane Austen on Film

JASNA (Jane Austen Society of North America) has put together a website with information, links, articles, etc. about Jane Austen films. That includes film adaptations of Austen’s books and "films that contain homages or references," but also films about Austen. I’ve only spent a few minutes there so far, but plan to spend more. I [...]

Why did Wickham run off with Lydia in Pride and Prejudice? There’s not much question why Lydia ran away with Wickham, but why did he run off with her?

Elizabeth herself says, [...]

Jane Austen Season

It’s another Jane Austen year on the screens…both the big screen and the little screen. Coming to movie theaters later this year is Becoming Jane, which looks completely fictionalized despite their claims, and The Jane Austen Book Club. But more on those another time, no need to depress ourselves now.

Starting this weekend in the U.K., [...]

P&P 10th Anniversary Edition Review

As I reported earlier, a tenth anniversary edition (DVD region 1) of the 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series is coming out next Tuesday. DVD Talk has an in-depth review here, which sadly includes a few errors about the plot. Other than the plot errors, it’s an interesting review. Here are a few key points:

This release [...]

Emma vs. Emma

My friend chats_noirs had a difficult day Friday culminating in badly sprained ankle. As their condo is not on the ground floor, this left her rather "shut in" for the holiday weekend. With my usual brilliance, a quote from her husband–not a crass attempt at fluffing my own feathers, I suggested a weekend Jane Austen [...]
